We believe 2009 is going to be a very challenging year for us at Operation de Novo. Budget cuts are inevitable and yet we do not want to compromise the important work we do. Operation de Novo is fortunate to have a long-tenured and talented Board of Directors that guides our hard-working staff through these difficult times. “Providing opportunities for people to become valued and contributing members of society.” This is Operation de Novo’s mission. We carry out this mission by providing early, intervention services to juveniles and adults in our community. I am proud to share with you that during 2008 we added three new components to our programming which help us to better meet our mission. We now have a full-time adult employment counselor on staff. This person provides coaching, training and employment development to support our clients in seeking jobs during these very difficult economic times. This is one more way to ensure we are providing meaningful opportunities to those we serve. We further expanded our services this year by entering into a contract with Hennepin County to implement a drug diversion program for adults. This program not only provides counseling services, but closely monitors clients for continued use of drugs through random UA testing on a regular basis. And last, we have expanded our juvenile services with Hennepin County to include more intense screening for alcohol and/or drug use. If screening reveals a potential alcohol or drug problem, the juvenile will be required to participate in a Brief Intervention Program to address these issues. None of the above accomplishments would have been possible without your generous support. Sincerely,
James T. Brown Executive Director
